Platner Wire Chair
Warren Platner — Knoll, USA
Warren Platner's chair turns slender steel rods into a curved volume that appears open or dense as the viewpoint changes.
A collection from 1966
Platner designed a family of furniture for Knoll using curved, connected steel rods. Upholstery softens the chair while the construction itself supplies the ornament.
A pattern shaped by light
The rods overlap as you move past them. A light background reveals the lines; side lighting adds shadows. Quiet upholstery emphasises the metal, while a stronger fabric draws attention to the seat.
Balance it with solid surfaces
A timber table or simple rug complements the open structure. Leave room around the curved base and check actual width and seat height rather than relying on its airy appearance.
