Wishbone Chair
Hans J. Wegner — Carl Hansen & Søn, Denmark
A Y-shaped back support, curved timber and a woven seat give Hans J. Wegner's Wishbone Chair its clear, crafted character.
Wegner's CH24
Wegner designed the CH24 in 1949, with production by Carl Hansen & Søn beginning in 1950. Wishbone Chair and Y Chair both refer to the distinctive support at the centre of the back.
Careful transitions in wood
The curved back flows into the arms, supported by the central Y. Paper cord forms the seat. The joints and transitions between timber parts reveal the attention given to the construction.
Choose timber beside existing finishes
Compare wood and finish samples with your floor and tabletop. The woven seat can connect with linen, rattan or other textured surfaces without requiring everything to match.
Check the fit at the table
Make sure the arms clear the table edge and adjacent chairs have enough room. A plain tabletop gives the Y-shaped back a clear setting, but dimensions should guide the final arrangement.
