PH Artichoke Lamp
Poul Henningsen — Louis Poulsen, Denmark
The PH Artichoke guides light through overlapping metal leaves, turning a lighting problem into a sculptural form.
Made for a restaurant
Poul Henningsen designed the pendant in 1958 for Copenhagen's Langelinie Pavillonen restaurant. It continues his exploration of shielding and reflecting light.
A shade of 72 leaves
Staggered leaves screen the light source and distribute reflected light. Copper, other metal finishes and painted versions have different effects, both illuminated and in daylight.
Plan it around the table
Choose the diameter in relation to the table and room. Leave enough space to appreciate the layered structure and preserve sightlines across the table. Quiet furniture and fewer competing reflective surfaces give the pendant a clear setting.
