Flowerpot Lamp
Verner Panton — &Tradition, Denmark
Two differently sized hemispheres give Verner Panton's Flowerpot its playful outline, whether on a table or suspended above it.
Panton's 1968 design
The Flowerpot belongs to Panton's colourful lighting work and reflects the experimental spirit of the late 1960s. Today the name covers a family of lamps with different uses.
A smaller bowl beneath the shade
A small hemisphere sits below the larger shade, shaping the silhouette and screening the light source. Finish, controls and light source depend on the version.
Start with the lighting task
A table lamp can pick up a colour from a rug or painting. A pendant over a dining table performs a different job. Choose its purpose and size before the colour, rather than expecting a small accent lamp to light the whole room.
