Noguchi Coffee Table

Isamu Noguchi — Herman Miller, USA

The Noguchi Coffee Table keeps its sculptural timber base visible beneath glass, making the structure part of the room.

A sculptor's approach to furniture

Isamu Noguchi's design from the 1940s brings his sculptural thinking to an everyday object. The rounded wooden supports and asymmetric top create a different composition from each viewpoint.

An open structure

Two shaped timber elements support a substantial glass top. Transparency lets you see the base beneath it. Follow the assembly instructions for the specific edition, including the position of the supports.

Place it with care

A quiet rug gives the wooden form a clear background. Allow room between the tabletop, sofa and walking routes: visual lightness does not reduce its footprint. A few objects on the glass are enough to leave the structure visible.
