LC4 Chaise Longue

Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand, Pierre Jeanneret — Cassina, Italy (licensed production)

The LC4 rests a curved reclining surface on a separate base, making the relationship between structure and posture visible.

A collaborative design

Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand developed the chaise longue in 1928 as part of their exploration of modern domestic furniture. The familiar model name should not obscure that shared authorship.

A curve for reclining

The upper frame changes inclination on its base. A padded surface and neck roll complete the form. Covering, condition and adjustment all affect the experience of lying down.

Allow space around it

Plan access from the side and clearance at both ends. A quiet wall gives the profile a clear background. Add a small table within reach without narrowing the route around the chaise.
