Diamond Chair
Harry Bertoia — Knoll, USA
Harry Bertoia's Diamond Chair draws a broad seat in steel wire, leaving the room visible through its open grid.
A sculptural chair from 1952
Bertoia developed the Diamond Chair for Knoll. His approach as an artist is evident in the way a wire surface becomes a curved shell with a faceted outline.
A pattern of light and space
The welded grid casts delicate shadows. A seat pad or fuller upholstery changes both comfort and transparency, so the upholstery choice matters as much as the frame finish.
Allow for its width
A quiet wall makes the wire pattern easy to see. Include the flared sides when measuring the footprint and try a compact timber table alongside it. Only versions specifically rated for outdoor use belong outside.
