Cesca Chair
Marcel Breuer — Knoll, USA (licensed production)
Marcel Breuer's Cesca Chair brings tubular steel, wood and cane together in a gently cantilevered seat.
Part of the cantilever story
The 1928 design belongs to modernism's experiments with tubular steel. Its frame dispenses with rear legs. Breuer's work sits within a wider development that also includes early cantilever chairs by Mart Stam.
A considered material mix
On the caned version, wooden frames surround the seat and back. The pale weave contrasts with the polished tubing. Upholstered versions offer a different texture and should be assessed as distinct options.
Around a dining table
A plain timber tabletop lets the materials stand out. On a vintage chair, inspect the cane, frame and connections. Check seat height and arm clearance against your table before choosing a full set.
